It was this day last year when I, on a whim, decided to make some pancakes for us even though neither of us were really a fan of them. They were very flat as I'd forgotten to put in baking powder, but they tasted nice and Martin decided to make them the next day and his were so much better! As our custard addiction was dwindling we found pancakes instead.
The problem was that once Shrove Tuesday was over, our pancake eating was not. We continued to make them, mainly late at night and often with chocolate melted over them. Very scrummy but all very naughty!
This year we are postponing our pancake day for a few days as we are going to be trying some healthier banana pancakes and our bananas are not ripe yet. The recipe calls for just banana and egg! No added sugar, or oil or even flour... Hopefully they will still taste nice, but be diet friendly. :)
A couple of days ago I made this little guinea pig for an order and hopefully he shall be with his new family soon.
My crochet blanket is still slowly coming along and today I'll be adding the blue, so one rainbow shall be complete! I wanted to do it yesterday but was too tired.
I'll need to order more of the cream wool as I had no idea how much I'd need but I'm already on my second ball and still have a looong way to go!
Yesterday I worked hard to make this little one:
But she needed a dress as she was to be a nurse bear.
As you can see, I am no seamstress and it took hours to make! The sheet felt was all wrong and makes it look bulky, but I had no thin fabric. Maybe I should have waited and ordered some navy blue fabric. If she is liked, she and the little bear I have sewn a while back will be heading off to their new home very soon. If not, I'll order some probably fabric and try the dress again!
Our diet is going better than expected. After lasts weeks fish and chips and ice cream, (And steak pie...) we were sure we'd have gained some, but for me it was a small loss and Martin has neither gained nor lost any, which is still pretty good. :) We've changed the ratios of our carb, fat and protein limits for each day with less carbs and more protein so hopefully that'll do good things for us too. Last night he made us a lovely curry with added peas, carrots and spinach... And lots of chicken for protein!
It's a bit spicy, but not unmanageable. The pitta bread helped but when we have it again tonight I can't have pitta with it or it'll push me over my limit as we are having soup and bread for lunch. But we are learning each day about what we can and can't have and we are adapting accordingly and quite well I'd say. :)
I have days when every part of me still screams for chocolate though. Those days are difficult!
