I splashed out and bought myself a shiny new camera and it arrived yesterday. I'd been in the middle of felting something when it came and I ended up not finishing what I'd started (still haven't!) so I could play with it! I do love new tech.
Today my parents came to visit and we went out in the sunshine. It was such a lovely day! I got to take lots of photos of various things which is always nice.
The camera has a rotating screen that can flip down specifically for taking selfies. I took this one before we left.
It's so good to not have to guess if you're actually in the frame or not! Being able to see yourself is very handy for this sort of photo. :)
The camera itself has interchangeable lenses and I got the kit lens and a second, slightly longer zoom lens for it for now.
There are a couple of others that I have on my wish list, but it was all getting very pricey so those will have to wait!
The photo quality is lovely, a good bit better than my phone, which I'd been happy with up till now for its ease of use and portability.
The rotating screen makes taking photos of us much less hit and miss! I usually cut Martin's head off while trying to get us both in the frame, (me being so short) so again, being able to flip the screen down so we can see ourselves makes it so much easier. Though, unless there's any Yellow Pages lying around he'll have to duck a little for best results. ;)
Most of these were taken on automatic settings as I am still not 100% certain of how to bring certain manual functions up. I have read the user manual but I couldn't take it all in! So that'll definetely have another read very soon.
Taking macros is a little different from what I'm used to. I've had various cameras before, 2 point and shoots and a DSLR. I got on fine with my point and shoot cameras and my very first camera went everywhere with me back in the day and I took photos of everything! But I did want a bit more and the next camera I got had some manual functions but not the possibility to change the lenses. It did however have a good macro setting on it and I enjoyed being able to get really close to something so it would fill the frame. This new camera doesn't let you get as close. The above was taken with the macro setting though, but I was trying to get even closer and it just wouldn't focus. I've got some extension tubes coming which will hopefully help a little until I can justify the big bucks for a nice macro lens!
The above 2 were taken with my other lens with the longer zoom. The camera has built in image stabilisation which is great for me as I don't have steady hands at all, especially with a larger lens on the camera.
This new camera is quite small, like a compact camera, but with lots more choice with lenses and manual settings, which I love. I like my DSLR but it is so big and has to go in a huge backpack and needs a tripod for non blurry shots... It's all too much for me and I rarely use it. Plus I'm not a great photographer so it was a bit wasted on me!
I think, though expensive, this camera will be ideal for me and when I figure out how to use it properly I'll be very happy with it. :) It fits in my bag so I can always have it with me and it's not overly complicated like a DSLR so I should be able to get better at it.
The photo quality, even with the kit lens is nice and clear!
We went to a few different places, and would have visited a few more but some roads were shut off to traffic.
Someone had put a Christmas Tree in the sand on one of the beaches we visited.
Someone had put shells on it and hung random things on it!
It was very nice, but I was so full afterwards. Though, it didn't stop us with the ice cream. ;)
Raspberry sorbet with cheeky chocolate hiding underneath. Yummy. :)
We've been terrible lately with the diet but we're now out of all the bad stuff so we shall go back to being good. The weather being nice will help as we can go out for more walks.
I am looking forward to it and I will take photos of it all. :)
